cal2016How to take high quality photos. High quality is not necessary for photos used for other purposes (i.e. web screen images).

If you wish to contribute photos for the Association’s annual calendar please follow these four basic rules:

  1. Take them with a digital camera that has at least a 7.2 megapixel sensor size.
  2. Set the camera to take “large” or “fine” detail and “high” quality photos in JPEG (.jpg) format. This means each photo will be 3.1 megabytes (MB). Photos that are less than 3.1 MB and not in .jpg format will not be suitable for the calendar.
  3. Send only photos with a horizontal orientation, meaning they are wider than they are high or tall. Photos with a vertical orientation cannot be used.
  4. Send only ONE photo at a time.

Image print quality is based on a number of factors, one of which is dots per inch (dpi) or pixels per inch. As a rule of thumb, 300 dpi has been used for years as the better quality standard. Given our minimum calendar requirement of 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall, at 300 dpi you would multiply 10 wide by 300 dpi to get 3,000 dots. You would then also multiply 8 inches tall by 300 dpi to get 2,400 dots. To get the total dots or pixels multiply 3,000 x 2,400 to get 7.2 MP, the minimum camera sensor size for photos for the calendar.”

If you can not meet these guidelines, send your photos anyway. The selection committee may consider them for the calendar.
